Eucharistic Ministers

The first Eucharistic Minister for St. Mary’s, Grantham was commissioned in March 1978 by the late Bishop James McGuinness. Two other ministers were commissioned in May of the same year, and two more in September of that year. The next ministers were commissioned in 1982, and so it went on.

At first the Eucharistic Ministers were employed mainly to assist the priest in distributing Holy Communion during Masses in church. Later this ministry was extended to bringing Holy Communion to the sick and housebound members of the parish; and it continues to the present time. The parish priest also makes visits himself.

The Parish has currently twenty-four Eucharistic Ministers of whom seventeen are active.

The Eucharistic Ministers work on a rota system, which is drawn up every three months.
