St Vincent de Paul Society

The St Vincent de Paul Society (“SVP”) (www.svp.org.uk ) is an international Christian voluntary organization dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing direct practical assistance to anyone in need. Active in England & Wales since 1844, today it continues to address social and material need in all its many forms.
It is a lay organisation for men and women founded in 1833 by a young Paris student named Frederick Ozanam. He responded to the challenge that the Church did nothing for the poor and needy. He and his fellow students went out into the slums of Paris to give help to those without any chance of helping themselves.
In our parish the Grantham Conference of the SVP, on a regular basis, amongst other things visit the housebound and nursing homes. They also are involved in:-
  • financially supporting students in India until they qualify in their chosen course.
  • providing food for babies in the Sudan and also donate funds towards medical treatment in the Sudan.
  • the conference is twinned with a conference in Kuttoor, India and supports it financially in their work.
  • also they organise Social Evenings, Car Boot sales and run market stalls to raise funds. All funds raised go towards supporting the above works and to provide the Christmas Hampers.
If you are interested in learning more about the SVP or possibly becoming a member then please contact the parish office or complete the enquiry form.
