Inter Diocesan Pilgrimage to Padley
Seventeen Parishioners from the Parishes of St. Mary’s Grantham and Our Lady of Good Counsel Sleaford, set off by coach at 12.15 pm on Sunday 14th July to take part in the Inter Diocesan Pilgrimage to Padley, in honour of the 2 Martyred Priests Blessed Nicholas Garlick and Robert Ludlam. We arrived at 1.45 at Grindleford Railway station, our parking place for the coach. At 3 pm we all set off together with about 200 other pilgrims on the sacred walk to the ruins of Padley Manor where it is said, the 2 Priests were arrested during the 14th. Century, and later executed in Derby.
Holy Mass began at 3.30pm concelebrated by Lordships Bishop of Hallam and Arch Bishop of Southwark, it was accompanied by music and singing, as the Pilgrims remained sat on hard and hot rocks as the sun shone down on us in its brilliance.
Holy Mass concluded at 4.45pm, and we all headed back to our cars and coaches to depart at 5.30pm.
This pilgrimage was again organised by the Knights of St. Columba Council 180 Grantham with the help of a Council 333 Newark Knight, based in Sleaford, by request of our Parish Priests Canons Anthony Dolan and Michael Bell.
