Maundy Thursday
Visita Iglesias
ushers the morning of Maundy Thursday. People start early to visit as many churches or chapels as possible. The number of churches to be visited varies. Some would do seven, others twelve, while still others fourteen – each church or chapel to represent a station in the
Via Crucis
. In the olden days, people usually do the
Visita Iglesias
on foot as a sacrifice or religious vow to earn graces and indulgences. But now, taking the public or private transportation is acceptable.
Maundy Thursday is also concluded by a Holy Mass to commemorate the Last Supper and the Washing of the Apostle’s Feet.
