Doubt no longer but believe. Minimize

Easter was, for some centuries, the normal time for admission into the Church, and there is still a great emphasis in the liturgy of the Easter Season on how we become members of the community of Christ’s faithful and what this implies.

The First Reading at the Masses during the Easter Season is nearly always taken from the Acts of the Apostles, a work which tells the story of how the first disciples, having experienced the presence of the Risen Lord, went out to tell others – by their lives as well as by their words – that Jesus, who had died on the Cross, had come back to life and would live for ever. That story is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on what it means to be members of the Church.

Think about it:

Thomas, one of the twelve apostles, had difficulty in believing that Jesus was risen from the dead. Do I ever doubt this and, if I do, how to I deal with my doubt?

Listen to it:

Re-read the gospel passage in order to see what you can learn about it for your faith.

Talk about it:

Share with a friend what it means to you to be a member of the Church (and don’t be frightened to own up to difficulties you may have – Thomas grew in faith because of his doubt.)

Learn from it:

Being a Christian involves relationship with other Christians as well as with God. How can I make this double relationship more of a reality in my life?

Pray about it:

Heavenly Father, help me to grow in faith in this Easter Season. Amen.
