John 10:27
The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me.
Sheep have a reputation for going astray. They are renowned for getting lost and going off course. Indeed, without the oversight of a shepherd they would run head-long into danger, injury or death. Jesus compared us to sheep for similar reasons. We too stray from the right path, we can go off course and walk head long into all manner of danger (spiritual. moral and physical). Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He draws us to himself constantly.
He protects, guides and leads us to safe pasture. Even when we go astray he always seeks us out. He will always find us. He will always lead us back into the fold of his heavenly Father, He will always shepherd us with his love, his forgiveness and his mercy until the end of our days.
'The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want. He makes me lie down in green pastures and restores my soul.' (Psalm 23: 1)
